The Third International Conference on Nanotechnology
 

 

HH Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Chancellor of United Arab Emirates University, inaugurated the Third International Conference on Nanotechnology organized by the Faculty of Engineering at UAEU.
The conference commenced with an address by HH Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan who praised the effort made by the Faculty of Engineering to organise this event which has assisted to ensure the competitiveness of the UAE and the Region in the global arena.
He also thanked the sponsors of this initiative for their support. After that Dr. Charalabos C. Doumaindis, Marie Curie Professor and Nanomanufacturing Program Director at the National Science Foundation, USA, spoke. This was followed by another speech titled ”III-V Quantum dot Lasers: Progress and Challenges” given by Dr. Mohamed Henini, Professor of Applied Physics at Nottingham University who is ranked number one of the top 25 authors on quantum dots in the UK. Dr. Syed Shah, Professor of Materials Science and Engineering, University of Delaware, Senior Policy Fellow, Centre for Energy and Environment Policy discussed ”Nanotechnology and Energy Alternatives”.
This conference is another one in the series of conferences on Nanotechnology, with the first conference being held in Al Ain in 2006 and the second one in Abu Dhabi in 2008.
The conference is sponsored by the United Arab Emirates University, US National Science Foundation, International Association for Sharing Knowledge and Sustainability, Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, Commission on Science and Technology for Sustainable Development in the South and Arab Academy of Science, Tawazun, ADEWA and Mubadala.
